We kicked off September with a social studies lesson on Labor Day. After hearing how important workers are to our country to keep everyone healthy and happy, learners thought about what they might want to be when they are old enough to work. In science we have been busy sorting objects by properties. We started off by looking at many different objects and trying to group them by like properties. At the end of the week, we looked specifically at rocks to determine shape, color, and luster. Learners have some amazing rocks in their collections! In writing, some learners wrote about how to relax and some wrote about how to stay cool in the heat. I got some great tips. Here are a few samples. I wish everyone a happy Labor Day weekend! Be safe!
Week #2 is now complete! Everyone worked so hard to get assignments turned in. I am so proud of all of the learners in our class! Take a look at some of our activities. In writing this week, we worked on ways to think of topics to write about. Learners made heart maps to show things that are special to them that would be excellent topics for writing. We also reviewed how to write about small moments by zooming in on important moments from their lives. In social studies, we learned about ways to be a good citizen. At the end of the week, learners role played what being a good citizen and a bad citizen would look like. The acting was superb! Thanks to all of the family members and friends who helped out! In our science Zoom this past week, 2nd graders observed a colorful investigation. Learners were given the option to participate from home using their own materials. Our class had two special Zoom meetings this past week. The first one was Mrs. Kirkley, our counselor. The second was with Mrs.Hunt, our librarian. Everyone enjoyed both! Everyone seemed to have a great week! We are looking forward to another great virtual week next week!
It was so exciting to get back to school after being away for so long! It was great to everyone's smiling face, even if it was not in person. Check out our first Zoom meeting of the year. Learners look very happy completing work from home. Thanks, parents, for sending pics! We spent the first week of school getting to know each other better. Learners completed several assignments that let us know what everyone is all about. Check out our Mini Me Figures! After listening to the book Not a Box, learners used their creativity to create something new out of a box. I think that, all in all, we had a great first week in 2A! A big THANK YOU goes out to parents for helping learners get organized and ready to learn!
During this time of digital learning, we have been finding new ways to communicate as a class. I love being able to talk to our 2A family through Zoom conferences.
This week we started our official Online Learning. Parents, teachers, and learners worked hard all week to get things up and running. Here are some photos from 2A's journey into learning at home. It is great to see some learners outside getting fresh air while they learn! Thanks you parents and learners for sending pics! Keep them coming!
Also, don't forget to check out 2A's Class Blog written by 2A learners. You can find it at the top of this page. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to Open House this past Thursday. Our class had 100% parent participation. The class was so exited to show off their work and our chicks! Monday, March 2 was Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day. We celebrated Dr. Seuss by reading many of his fun books. We watched the original Lorax story and made mustaches. We hope to spread his message and always speak for the trees. Early in the week, learners worked hard on their Keynote presentations about continents and natural resources around the world. We spent time asking some questions about our new unit on life cycles. We love hearing our classmates read to us. On Friday, we spent some time visiting some 1st grade classrooms and letting them pet the chicks. Finally it has come time to say goodbye to our chicks We have enjoyed having them in class and learning about their development and life cycle. We wish them a fine life on the farm! Have a great spring break!
After 21 days, some of our eggs hatched. Here are the three that hatched from our incubator. They are growing very quickly! We have been having fun learning about the development of the chick inside the egg. We have also loved watching the chicks after the hatch. Here are pictures from our first photo shoot with our beauties. The chicks will be staying with us for another week. We look forward to learning more about them. We are also in the process of voting on names for each one. We are wrapping up our unit on natural resources. Here the learners are painting the paper mache globes that they made from starch and newspaper. The class enjoyed listening to this learners share a favorite book.
