This week we concluded our IB unit on How We Organize Ourselves by presenting our Living Museum. Learners chose a leader to research, took notes from several different resources, and used the notes to write a report. Then they dressed as the leader they chose and presented an oral report at our Living Museum. Leaders from all walks of life were represented! Our Frizzle Friday this week involved ramps and runways. Learners conducted investigations to answer their questions on how to make wheels and spheres roll in certain directions. Ms. Hays works with learners on Lyrics2Learn. They were learning a Thanksgiving song. We loved hearing about our Star of the Week this week! We were excited to hear this learner's grandma read two great stories to us that we had not hear before. Excellent book choices! I hope everyone has a wonderful break. Here is a little readers theater we put together to get you in the holiday mood. Happy Thanksgiving!

We started out our week working with Mrs. Kirkley to make place mats for the local homeless shelter. We are thankful that we are able to help others who are in need. On Tuesday, we discussed the importance of voting. We are thankful that citizens have the opportunity to have our voices heard through our elections. Our Frizzle Friday science occurred in the middle of the week this week. We worked with Mrs. Pickrell to explore spinners. Learners used inquiry skills to ask questions about how spinners work and then created their own spinners using discs and shafts. They tested their spinners and collected data on their effectiveness. We are thankful for Mrs. Pickrell for designing such an engaging lesson for us! During library this week, learners were able to participate in Makerspace. We are thankful to Mrs. Hunt and Ms. Kelley for setting this up for us. On Friday, Pinkerton celebrated Veterans Day and veterans everywhere with a Veterans Day assembly. We heard speeches and sang songs. We are thankful for people who put their own lives in danger to ensure our safety and freedom! This week our Star of the Week shared his favorite book and his poster with the class. He also celebrated his birthday this week. We were thankful for his parents for bringing delicious cupcakes! We ended the week with a wonderful grandma as our guest reader. We are thankful for her for taking time to come and visit with us! I am thankful for the awesome learners that I get to work with everyday in 2A!
I am truly blessed! 2A was excited to celebrate our Write-a-Check participation win with pizza and cookies courtesy of the PTO. We all enjoyed the cheese and pepperoni pizza and chocolate chip cookies. By the time I finished serving, these children were the only ones still eating! It also came with an unexpected gift card! THANKS PTO! Our week was filled with science activities. On Tuesday, we went out to the Pinkerton Patch to plant our seeds in the square foot garden. Mrs. Pickrell was on hand to lead the way. While we were there, we watched for monarch butterflies in the flower section of the garden. On Thursday, we went to the science lab to make observations. We made sketches of interesting items. When we returned to the room, we worked in pairs to discuss what we thought was most interesting in the lab. On Friday, we returned to the science lab to practice our inquiry skills. We explored the concept of force and motion by testing how objects use push and pull to have motion and if different materials and weights cause objects to move faster or more effectively. Our Star of the Week shared his poster and many interesting things about himself. We ended the week with a fabulous guest reader. Thanks for coming to read to us, Mr. Graves!
