Be safe and have a wonderful winter break!
Winter break is finally here! But we don't want to forget all of the fun we had along the way. Thanks to Mrs. Mathis, Mrs. Ostlund, Mrs. Kelley, Mrs. Monroe, and Mrs. Hill for helping with our winter party! We appreciate you! I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season.

Cultural traditions activities are in full swing this week as we head toward the winter break. On Monday, all 2nd graders explored traditions from Germany with Mrs. Baker by baking gingerbread men, traditions from Mexico with Mrs. Denton by drinking Mexican hot chocolate, and traditions from the US with Mrs. Vanicek by making hand print trees. On Tuesday we had a fabulous time at the Gaylord Texan Hotel seeing the ICE Christmas Around the World Exhibit. Learners were able to see beautiful ice carvings representing traditions from the US and other countries. There was also a very fun ice slide! Today was our Cultural Luncheon. We enjoyed eating delicious foods from many cultures. We appreciate all of the parents who sent food and helped us serve and clean-up.
I am so proud of our 2nd graders and the job they did in our program. They learned songs and dances from other cultures and compared these traditions to see how they were the same and how they were different. Our next big event of the day was to have Mrs. Mittal come and speak about Diwali. She brought a wonderful presentation to help us learn more about this tradition from India.
As December speeds by, we are busy getting ready for our Cultural Celebrations program on Thursday. We made signs to use as a backdrop for our performance. We are continuing to work on our cultural traditions research presentations. Today we worked in groups to set up the slides for the project.
This week we have been busy learning about cultural celebrations around the world. Learners chose a winter celebration to research and create a presentation showing traditions of that culture. We continued looking at other cultures in math by comparing and contrasting money from other countries. In music, 2nd grade has been practicing their Holidays Around the World program. We are looking forward to presenting it Thursday night. Ms Hays came in this week to teach a lesson on taking notes. The class practiced looking for important key words in a nonfiction selection. After lunch, we enjoyed hearing from our fabulous guest reader who shared a bit of info on Diwali and Christmas and we heard a super Star of the Week presentation.
