This week we celebrated grandparents and special friends. We were excited to have many guests during our lunch time and our book fair events. Thanks to everyone who was able to come out and support our school. Also, thanks go to the parents and grandparents who purchased a book for our class! In science, we are exploring changes in matter. We conducted an experiment to see if temperature and/or choice of container materials affect the rate of melting. Of course, it is always great when you can eat your leftover science materials! The class was excited to have our Friday guest reader come to our class. Her book choice was great!

As part of our unit on How We Express Ourselves, 2nd grade was excited to go to the Crayola Experience for our first field trip of the year. Learners had a blast creating multiple projects using technology, crayons, wax, and Model Magic. In class, learners had fun expressing themselves using puppets. Then learners created their own puppets using paper bags. 2nd grade was very excited to work with our 5th grade buddies. 2A's buddy class is 5A, Mrs.Hope's class. The 5th graders made oobleck, which behaves like a solid and a liquid and allowed our second graders to explore it. Also in science, our class explored weighing solid matter and observing what happens when matter is heated. The results were delicious!
On Monday, learners participated in an engineering challenge. After reading Iggy Peck, Architect, learners worked together in groups to design and build a bridge that would hold weight. We went to library for our first time this year. Mrs. Hunt had put together a fun activity to review library rules. Learners had to use clues to open multiple locks in order to break out of the boxes and get a place holder to check out books. Mrs. Hunt also introduced a new way for learners to check out their books themselves. To express ourselves this week, learners created a design to iron on to a t-shirt. During writing workshop, writing partners gave suggestions on how to make the stories come alive by adding feelings, action, and dialog. On Friday, learners explored weight of matter and practiced weighing classroom items. We were also very excited to have our first guest reader of the year. Thank you, Mrs. Terry, for coming to visit our class!
