As part of our unit on leaders and government, learners read a short readers theater play called a Barn With No Boundaries. In it, the barnyard animals were trying to choose someone to be the barnyard leader. Learners decided which animal would probably make the best leader based on their characteristics. The class members made campaign posters to promote the animal that they thought would do the best job. After presenting the posters, learners voted. The owl got the most votes because everyone thought he would be a wise leader. Mrs. Mikkelsen spoke to 2nd grades about her leadership role as principal of Pinkerton. Mr. Caviness also came to talk about his leadership role as a CISD school board member. Throughout the week, we loved hearing several of our classmates read their original stories out loud. I loved seeing these beautiful pieces of art that were hanging outside the art room Thanks, Mrs. Huckle, for inspiring such creative pieces. Learners have been enjoying creating finger puppet shows during our Morning Choice time. Coppell firefighters came to talk about fire safety as part of Fire Prevention Week. Everyone loved the show! Our class enjoyed our first visit to Makerspace in our library. Learners were very busy creating and problem solving. The class also enjoyed our Guidance lesson with Mrs. Kirkley. On Friday, we met with our fifth grade buddy class for some fall drawing fun. We ended the week with this fabulous guest reader. Thanks for coming to read to us!!

The first week of October was exciting for 2A. We ended our first IB unit on How We Express Ourselves with our 2nd Grade Arts Show. (See highlights on my Oct. 3 post.) We also celebrated my birthday on Wednesday. Thank you all so much for all of the cards, gifts, and cupcakes. It was a fabulous celebration!
We were happy to get back in to the library to check out books following our book fair. On Thursday afternoon, we went back to the library to hear author Gordon Korman speak. On Friday, we met with our 5th grade buddies and read our books that we wrote for the Arts Showcase to them. They also shared some of their writing with us. Later in the day, we began sharing our books with our classmates. We will continue sharing books next week. We had a busy week!
Thanks to everyone who was able to come to our Arts Showcase. The class had a great time showing off their hard work during our unit on How We Express Ourselves. We enjoyed seeing our drama presentations and how the class expressed themselves through music.
The class was also excited to show off the t-shirts that they designed and created themselves.
