We have been quite busy finishing up our last unit on natural cycles. We looked closely at water to see if we could devise an efficient affordable filter to take out unwanted materials from our polluted samples. We went on a field trip to the Coppell Nature Park Biodiversity Education Center. We also released our butterflies after observing their metamorphosis. We We spent some final minutes with our chicks before they were taken back to the farm on Friday. We will miss them!

Check out our slideshow of our fabulous 2016 Field Day at Pinkerton! Thanks to the PTO and all of the volunteers who helped make this an awesome day!
This week we were very excited to welcome our chicks into the world. Eggs began popping open on Monday. Our class ended up with seven new chick friends. Our seventh chick took a long time to hatch. It had seemed to give up trying, so I put the other chicks next to the incubator so it could hear their chirping. That seemed to perk it up and give it the strength to bust on out of the shell. Encouragement is everything! Check out our chicks in action:
As we continue learning about cycles in nature, we observed different types of insects. We look forward to seeing how they change over time. We enjoyed Skyping with author Kate DiCamillo in the library. Thanks goes to Mrs. Freyou for providing this fun opportunity for us.
This past week was Teacher Appreciation Week. I was inundated with treats, gifts and best wishes. I felt very appreciated. But I want to say the appreciation goes both ways. I truly appreciate each and every child in my class. The are the sweetest and most caring children. They work hard every day. They try to show integrity in all they do. I am blessed to get to come to work every day and be with this awesome class! Throughout the week we worked on Mother's Day projects. Learners wrote and illustrated books about why their mothers are the best. We created picture frames with photos of moms and learners. We finished up with a short video letting our moms know how much we love them. |
