Math is fun! Learners worked in groups to create picture graphs of classmates' favorite things. First the groups developed a survey question and choice items. Then they surveyed friends in our classroom. Learners used the survey information to create picture graphs. We continued learning about each other by pairing up and using a double-bubble thinking map to see how classmates are alike and different. Tomorrow we will launch our IB unit called Creative Expression. Don't forget to bring your empty box!
Today we thought about ways we can include others at our school. We made circle maps showing ways to include others and then groups wrote and performed skits showing examples of including others and not including others. In reading we learned about the three ways to read a book: read the words, read the pictures and retell the story. Then we practiced Read to Self to continue to build our reading stamina. We continued to learn about our classmates by conducting a Friendship Interview. Tomorrow we will present what we found out about our new 2A friends.
Our Pinkerton PRIDE rule of the day was remain safe. We discussed ways to remain safe throughout the school. Then we created and shared signs to show learners safe and unsafe behaviors at school. In reading we reviewed the strategy of check for understanding. Then we practiced building stamina during read to self, which is part of our literacy workstations. During math we worked on expressing ourselves with numbers. We completed a Math About Me sheet to share with the class. All in all it was a great day!
We had a fabulous first day of school today. Everyone worked hard learning routines and reviewing how to show responsibility in our class and around the school. I was particularly impressed by how enthusiastic the children are. Take a look at our first day faces. In math we worked together to show different ways to represent the value of numbers from one to ten.
I am excited to start a brand new school year tomorrow! The classroom is ready and tomorrow is the big day.
