We ended our unit on leadership by reflecting on what we learned. Here are a few of the responses: Leaders are important to a community. Leaders must be responsible. Leaders help a community run smoothly. Anyone can be a leader. Leaders must be cooperative. Leaders should be kind. Leaders work hard. Leaders solve problems. |
Then we read a fun Thanksgiving reader response play called Turkey Tom. Here are the characters in our play:

We loved having our first Dad of the Day helper in 2A today. Thanks for helping us during Daily 5, Mr. Graves! In library we learned how to check out ebooks. Mrs. Freyou showed the class how to go online to find them. Learners are allowed to check out three ebooks at a time. Today we presented our Living Museum. During our unit on leadership, second grade learners explored the attributes of a good leader. They learned who can be a leader and what their responsibilities are. Learners researched a famous person, took notes and wrote about the person. They included who their person is, who influenced them and what makes them a leader. Learners presented their information to parents, other learners, and guests. They did a great job! Thank you to all of our guests who came out to enjoy our presentations today! And thank you to all of our parents who helped put together the costumes. Everyone looked fantastic! Everyone worked hard today during Daily 5 time. Check out our photos of Daily 5 in action. Mrs. Kirkley came to do a guidance lesson with us on kindness. She read a book and then the class played Kindness Bingo. Afterwards during writing time, we wrote thank you letters to show kindness to people who have been kind to us. Come and see them hanging outside our classroom! During math we played a game called Close to 20. Learners used number cards to create number strings with three numbers that when added together are close to 20. Partners did a great job working together. We also made signs for the Living Museum presentation that will be held tomorrow afternoon. The oral reports are well-written and we are ready to let guests see our hard work. Hope you can come!
It was good to be working inside today on this chilly day. We started off sorting our spelling words. Learners are doing a fantastic job sorting and discussing the meaning of their spelling words. It is great to hear them discuss vowel patterns in their groups and decide on their own where words fit. Learners got busy working on Daily 5 using cozy blankets to read in the hall and cozied up to our big stuffed bear named Michael. In the afternoon, we practiced reading our oral reports to each other. We can't wait until our Living Museum presentation on Wednesday afternoon.
We started off our day with lots of reading and writing. We practiced our math facts with Reflex Math. We ended the busy week with lots of hard work to complete our research reports. After learning to take and organize notes and turn them into a paragraph, we typed the paragraph so we could bring it home to practice reading it. We can't wait to present our reports at our Living Museum on Wednesday. We also enjoyed hearing our guest reader read two books. Thanks, Emily! Thursday was library day. Mrs Freyou read a great book to us. The class did an excellent job finding books on their own and reading quietly when they were finished checking out books. Thanks to Mrs. Wilson for being our volunteer! We spent the morning working on note-taking for our Living Museum projects. Today in Spanish, we reviewed vocabulary for body parts. We used this vocabulary to answer a question about how we feel. Watch us as we practice vocabulary with a song and dance. Next week, we will learn Spanish words for our senses. Please see our Spanish page under Class Info for this month's Spanish newsletter. We continue to work on researching leaders for our Living Museum. We are learning to find relevant information that will answer our questions. We are also learning to cite our resources. In math we practiced breaking down numbers to solve problems. We are hoping for a warmer day tomorrow!
Today was Veterans Day and our school celebrated with a special assembly. We invited the veterans from all of our families to join us. We had a wonderful turn-out. Learners sang and made speeches to honor all veterans. 2nd and 3rd graders sang a song to thank veterans for their service to our country and our citizens and let them know how proud we are of each of them. 2A would like to wish veterans everywhere
