Members of our class had some fun adventures over spring break. We had fun writing about and sharing our stories. 2nd grade concluded our unit on staying healthy with a visit from Dr. Alles and his hygienist, Esther. It is always fun when they visit and teach us about brushing and flossing. We launched our next IB unit, Sharing Our Planet, on Wednesday by exploring matter. First, we went outside to collect solid matter to be sorted according to properties. Later in the week, we explored liquid matter and observed how a change in temperature can cause matter to change. We had an assembly to hear about our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. We also enjoyed hearing our guest reader read about sharks!

Thanks to everyone who was able to come to Open House! The class was thrilled to show off all of their hard work. Learners displayed work related to our current IB unit, Who We Are. Our central idea is Choices we make affect personal health.
Where is Flat Stanley? Learners are patiently waiting for news on what their Flat Stanleys have been up to. Journals should be returning to school soon! Follow us on Twitter @gdentonpink
This week learners chose a health related topic to research and present to the class. Learners chose whether they wanted to do individual research or work with a partner. Following research, each learner or pair will put together a 30 Hands presentation to present to the class and at Open House. We wrapped up our nutrition unit by using photos to put together a healthful meal. Then learners compared this meal to the one they put together at the beginning of the unit to see if they had learned any tips for choosing healthful foods and creating a balanced meal. Thursday, March 2 was Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Day! Thursday was also the day of the Pinky Hustle. Everyone had a great time and helped Pinkerton at the same time! Thanks for all of your support!! Pinkerton Pete told me he was once in my class. He must have been much smaller!!
We loved hearing about our Star of the Week this week and hearing her favorite book!
