Everyone did a great job presenting their research on a cultural celebration.
We wrapped up a very busy week in 2A! We had projects to complete and special activities to enjoy. Everyone did a great job presenting their research on a cultural celebration. Pajama Day was exciting. We added in hot chocolate, powdered donuts and some fun snowman activities. What does your snowman do at night? We celebrated a birthday and a Star of the Week. We ended with Electronics Day! I want to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable winter vacation. See you next year!

Today we celebrated our diverse cultures. Learners came dressed in the traditional clothing of their families. Parents sent tasty food from many different cultures. Parents, thanks for all of your help!!Lucky Super Stetsons! It pays to exhibit learner profile attributes and attitudes. Earlier in the week, we read a book called Imogene's Antlers. Then the learners drew themselves with antlers and wrote about how they would use them. Mrs Hays worked with us to practice our inferencing and sequencing skills. In math, we are practicing double digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. This was a challenging assignment! We are trying to finish up our Cultural Celebrations presentations. We only need to add a few finishing touches and we will be ready to send out a link.
First thing today we redeemed our Dojo points for awards. Many learners spent their points on themselves, while some spent their points on a class reward. The class appreciated their generosity. We continued to work on our Google slide presentations on cultural celebrations. Learners wrapped up the research part of the project and began to create pages on their Google site. In math, we practiced addition with regrouping and took a mini-assessment. We continue to learn about different cultures as we prepare our presentations on celebrations. Today we organized our notes. Mrs. Sims came to our class to help us set up our Google slides document. We are ready to show what we know! Our Star of the Week did a great job sharing his favorite book with the class. We had another fun day in library.
This morning we participated in an awesome global event. First we watched a short video from President Obama telling us about Computer Science Education Week and how we can participate. Then we went to the computer lab to participate in the Hour of Code event. We had a great time. We all earned our certificates! Mrs. Kirkley visited our class today to talk about cooperation. She led the class in an activity that let classmates practice working together. We spent the afternoon working on writing and solving word problems in math that relate to our cultural celebrations Then the class continued to do research on the cultural celebrations that they chose to learn about. It was a very busy day!!
2A's Winter Party Thanks to Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Hudson, Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Olmstead for organizing and helping with our party!
Today we began researching celebrations from cultures around the world. Learners chose a celebration to research and worked with classmates to answer questions that were developed by the class. Mrs. Freyou presented another fun library lesson this morning. The class reviewed the different types of books and materials in the library. Then depending on the type of book they checked out, they were given a sticker to add to the gingerbread house. We finished writing about family celebrations. We look forward to comparing our paragraphs and seeing what traditions we share.
In math, we reviewed regrouping and created word problems based on the cultural celebrations of our families. On Monday, we will trade and solve each other's math problems. We are excited about tomorrow's field trip to the middle school and we are looking forward to our winter holiday party! Today we set up our digital portfolios to house our IB projects and reflections. Thanks to Mrs. Sims, our fabulous technology wizard, we were able to get our Google sites up and running. The class worked diligently for an hour and a half to create and organize their own personal sites. We will continue to post our work for our first two IB units. Fall leaves were coming down at recess today!
We had a chilly welcome back to school after our Thanksgiving break. It is amazing how quickly the weather can change in Texas. We also welcomed a new class member this morning. We now have 18 amazing learners in our class! Today in writing learners created a tree map showing how they can be great leaders. Then they used the map to write a short paragraph about themselves. This will be added to our portfolios under our Leaders IB unit. After lunch, in groups, we launched our new IB unit, Cultural Celebrations, by looking at photos of celebrations from different cultures without knowing what the celebrations actually were. We wrote what we noticed about each photo and then added what we wondered about them. As a class, we discussed what we thought was happening in the photos and what was being celebrated. We looked at similarities and differences. Then learners chose a cultural celebration to research. Learners will develop questions, research, and present the research findings to the class.
