We made it through our first week successfully! We had a great time learning about second grade and our new friends. Learners compiled All About Me bags with items that represented themselves. All week long, they presented the bags answered questions from the class. In math, we continued to look at how to represent numbers.Learners created a poster showing numbers represent them. We also decorated our birthday numbers to add to our birthday poster. We created our essential agreements so that our class will run smoothly. We also practiced many classroom routines, like read to self, which you can see below. It is hard to sit still after being active all summer, so we tried to take frequent brain breaks. This year at the beginning of the day, second grade will be engaging in Morning Choice activities. When learners arrive, they will choose from various learning activities to work on. This week we practiced three of the choices so that learners would know what to do if they choose these activities. Next week, we will introduce other Morning Choice activities. At the end of the week, we were excited to kick off our first IB unit, which is How We Express Ourselves. The class listened to the book Not a Box and then created something unique and original from a box brought from home. We will present our boxes next week and tell what they really are, since they are definitely NOT a box! Celebrations... This week we had two celebrations. First we had our first Super Stetson for the year in 2A. This classmate was showing integrity by standing in the lunch line quietly and respectfully. We also celebrated our first birthday of the year. We enjoyed delicious cupcakes during the birthday celebration. Yum! 2A had an awesome first week!

Dance break...and we're happy! After listening to the book Zero, learners worked in pairs to show different ways to represent numbers one through ten.
We had an awesome first day of school today! Along with the excitement of the first day in a new classroom, we also had the excitement of the solar eclipse. Our class had fun meeting new friends and learning more about old friends. This morning we were able to get outside for a short break before the eclipse began. After lunch, we were excited to begin our solar eclipse activities. We looked at a live stream of the eclipse on our computer. We learned what happens when we have a solar eclipse. Then we went outside to observe for ourselves what a solar eclipse looks like. Afterwards, we drew what we saw in our science journal and wrote about it. All in all, it was an eventful day in 2A. I can't wait until tomorrow!
Everything is ready in 2A to start a brand new year of school. Thanks to everyone who came to Meet the Teacher. It was fun to meet all of my new learners, as well as their families. We are going to have an awesome year! Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow morning!
