2A has many things to be thankful for. One person we are thankful for is Mrs. Kirkley, our counselor. She worked with our class to make Thanksgiving place mats for local shelters. Another thing the class was thankful for this week was our tasty math lesson. We used our measurement skills to make delicious pumpkin pies! In science, we made popcorn kernels "dance" using baking soda and vinegar to create carbon dioxide bubbles which carried the kernels up in our jar of water. We ended our week by watching the Peanuts Thanksgiving special and enjoying delicious popcorn. _______________________________________________________________ I am thankful for 2A parents. As part of our IB unit on leaders, learners chose a person they were interested in to research. After finding several resources and taking notes, learners prepared a short report about their chosen leader. Parents and guests were invited to join us in the cafeteria to hear interesting facts about the leaders that the learners had chosen. Familiar faces from last year came to hear the presentations. They particularly enjoyed it when someone had chosen the same leader that they had chosen last year. Thank you, parents, for your help in getting costumes and props together for the presentations. I hope you enjoyed our Living Museum!
On Halloween, the class enjoyed our math and science activity using pumpkins. First, learners made predictions about the weight, circumference, and number of seeds in each pumpkin. After weighing, measuring, and counting seeds of a medium sized pumpkin, learners revised their initial predictions. Then in groups, we weighed, measured, and counted seeds in all of the pumpkins and discussed whether size has any effect on the number of seeds inside. Thanks goes to the parents who sent in pumpkins! Learners had fun reading with partners during flashlight reading. As a Halloween treat, we made Frankenstein cakes! During the week, 2nd grade was excited to have two guest speakers from our community to talk about leadership. Thanks to Mayor Karen Hunt and Mrs. Leigh Walker for coming to speak to us. We On Friday, the Coppell Fire Department came to present the annual safety presentation. We ended our week with an awesome guest reader. Thanks, Mrs. Walker, for coming back on Friday to read to our class! On to November...
