Second grade had a wonderful time on our walking field trip to Coppell Life Safety Park. Our lesson was on fire safety. Coppell firefighters did an excellent job showing learners what to do in case of a fire. After the program, we walked to Old Town Coppell to each lunch before returning to Pinkerton. We ended the day on a sweet note with this birthday celebration. Three days left to go. The year has passed so quickly!

On Tuesday, 2nd grade had a wonderful time at the Perot Museum. First, our class went to the Lego Simple Machines program. It was fun identifying and creating different types of simple machines. Following the program, we enjoyed our lunch outdoors at the museum. It was a beautiful day for a picnic! After lunch, learners and chaperones visited the many different exhibits at the museum. 2A would like to thank all of our chaperones for coming along. We could not have gone without you! Thanks goes to Mr. Brown, Mrs. Garza, Mr. Leow, Mrs. Ostlund, Mr. Solanki, and Mrs. Walker. We appreciate you!
As we continue our unit on ways to stay healthy, we were pleased to have many guest speakers visit 2nd grade. We kicked off the week with Dr. Alles and his hygienist, Ms.Esther. They spoke about the importance of taking good care of our teeth and visiting the dentist regularly. 2nd graders had fun dressing as teeth and demonstrating what proper brushing and flossing looks like. Our own Nurse Mary came to each 2nd grade class to talk about proper hand washing. She brought along a product called Glo Germ, which demonstrates the importance of washing hand very carefully in order to get rid of germs. On Friday, 2nd grade was excited to welcome several medical students from UT Southwestern to our classes to talk about body systems and visiting the doctor. A big thank you goes to Dr. Salazar, a parent in 2C, for arranging the visit.
