We kicked off our new IB unit, Making Healthy Choices, with a gallery walk. Learners looked at photos of human organs and made comments about what they already know and what they wonder about these organs. The class has been studying body systems and how they work together. As learners discover facts about each system, groups add related organs to paper models. We were very excited to be able to participate in a Google For Ed Augmented Reality program. Thanks to Mrs. Neal and Sra. Holguin for leading our session! We learned about the skin. We enjoyed hearing Dr. Baker, pediatric gastroenterologist, speak about the digestive system. In conjunction with Earth Day, representatives from Southern Champion Tray spoke to 2nd grade about their Trees into Cartons, Cartons into Trees program. Following the presentation, learners were presented with the cartons that they decorated, filled with a live tree. Last week, specials teachers sponsored the Fine Arts Cultural Night. The weather was perfect for listening to music outdoors. Everyone enjoyed seeing the beautiful artwork and exhibits. Earlier in the month, learners were asked to "show what they know" about three-dimensional shapes by building specific shapes. In class, learners enjoy showing off their Lego creations. Last, but not least, it was a happy birthday for this sweet girl!

We had a fun week last week. We started off the week by completing our egg carton insects. Learners showed what they know about the parts of an insect. We observed tadpoles from first grade. We hope to get to see them again after they are adults. On Thursday we went on a field trip to the Coppell Nature Park. We explored insects and plants. It was great to be outdoors! Thanks to Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Patel for chaperoning. Thursday night was the annual Pinky Hustle. Many families came out to support Pinkerton. It was great to see everyone there!
