Today we participated in an amazing Field Day! Although it was a little muddy on the field, we did not let that stop us from having an fabulous time. Thanks to all of the parents who volunteered to make it such a success. After lunch, we relaxed and watched a movie with our chicky friends.

2nd grade participated in flashlight reading today. Learners enjoyed working with the lights off in the classroom and in the hall. In math we went on a scavenger hunt to find 3D objects and list their attributes. We petted the chicks!!! Nothing tops that!!!
Following a lengthy, 21 day wait, the eggs finally started hatching last night. 2A's eggs started with two chicks cracking out last night. Throughout the day, more have arrived in our incubator. Tonight I will move the older ones to the brooder, where it is a toasty 99 degrees. Hopefully, more will hatch tonight and tomorrow. Check out the video of one of 2B's chicks that I happened to catch popping out this morning. I went up to school tonight to move a few of the chicks to the brooder. Here is what some of the chicks looked like after drying out. We will move the others to the brooder tomorrow morning. Today was a day for sweet memories. Pinkerton hosted its annual Senior Reunion in the library. It was fun to see my 2nd graders from the 2004-2005 school year. They are all so tall! It was great to hear all of their plans for after graduation. I am proud of each of them.
We continue to observe and research the life cycles of different animals. We have transferred out butterfly pupae to our cage to await the completed metamorphosis! We turn our eggs over twice daily. We finished up our unit on fractions by playing fraction bingo.
All week in class we continued to observe the life cycles of several plants and animals. We will be comparing and contrasting the life cycles of different animals, as well as learning about how animals and plants adapt to their environments. We are looking forward to our chicks hatching around May 26. Friday was full of fun! We had a birthday celebration with delicious donuts. Mr. Anand came to read to us. Teachers participated in the Exhibition project of two of our 5th graders who are trying to show how makeup affects young girls' self image. We think beauty comes from inside, not how you look on the outside.
Today Mrs. Kirkley came in to do her guidance lesson. It focused on listening to others and working together.
2A is coming to life with plants and animals! This past week we planted beans and various seeds in our classroom windows. We are patiently waiting for the seeds to germinate and the sprouts to pop up. We also have several animal friends visiting in our classroom. We are observing the life cycles of meal worms, butterflies, and chickens. Today we read about several different life cycles including frogs, butterflies and corn. Then we made fact boxes to show what we learned.
